Now or Later
2D Mixed Media Paint & Sharpie 2017 Class of 2020 Meaning: I think God puts beauty in this world to mask all the bad things that are going on or at least distracts us at least from hurting ourselves. The tree basically symbolizes God. He gives us too options: Either pick the light side where you can continue your life, or the dark where you chose to end it. The girl is weak because she is slowly moving to the dark side, but she is still not certain if she wants to continue living. The red dress symbolizes death, but also her innocence. The boarder is vines and leaves because it shows this has been happening a long time now and that this is her choice and not anyone else's. |
Why Does it Matter?
2D Mixed Media Acrylic Paint, Printed Images & Tissue Paper 2017 Class of 2020 Meaning: As things developed in the world it wasn't just technology that progressed. The amount of self-indulgence that a girl has on herself has increased a lot. Girls have been caring more about how they look and sometimes it's not even for themselves. That's why the background is a spiral, to show what most girls revolve around. They revolve around makeup trying to be this type of beauty people expect for girl considering what they see on the internet and in magazines. They feel like they have expectations but they really don't. Going natural can be just as beautiful, girls shouldn't need makeup to show a hidden beauty they have always had. That's why I put two pictures of Emma Watson. One where she has makeup and one where she doesn't and still looks equally beautiful. On the top I put outfit choices. There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself and what goes with what making sure things match, but when it comes to trying to get someone to notice you? That's where it kind of crosses the line a little bit. Either way the person is supposed to love you for you not someone you pretend to be because they would expect that from you all the time. I'm not saying going natural is the best thing to do but do what you feel comfortable doing like sure get out of your comfort zone a little bit, experiment, but what truly matters is what you think of yourself. I put some mascara and foundation to show what is most common and the other pictures show what goes on in our minds. How we want to be perfect but we know it's not going to happen, but we always wish and put expectations up for our self's sometimes too. |
A Better Understanding
2D Mixed Media Embroidery ring, cloth, yarn, markers. 2017 Class of 2020 Meaning: When people think of Mexico they usually think of deserts, cactus and beaches but there is way more then that. There are mountains and really big cities and big grassy areas. All the beautiful scenery and the culture of the people are what people don't think of when they picture Mexico when they haven't even been. I wanted to show the true Mexico, but not just the scenery but a tiny bit of culture too. The flower is the national flower of Mexico, the Dahlia. The sombrero was used for to provide shade. Some people think of us as the bad guys. That we bring drugs into this country and "steal" your jobs. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself why. We apply for any job we can get that will except us and that could pay us to put food in our stomachs and have a shelter for our families or self's. We don't mind doing hard labor as long as we get payed we will do what we have to do for our family because family means everything to us and we want what's best. We want things that we couldn't achieve or get back home. We are just trying to get by in this messed up world just like the rest of you. We make mistakes and some of us really bad choices but that's what makes us human. It goes to say the same for the rest of the cultures that people discriminate. One person should not just be an example of a whole community or country. That's not how it should be but it is. The sad part is, that's never going to change. People are going to have their opinions, their mind sets but the only thing you can change is the way you think of the world around you. |
